I name the Thumb Drive 'Ridgeline' (or whatever you want). Use 'Disc Utility' to format a 32GB Thumb Drive (EX-FAT for anything bigger). I have used 32Gb up to 256GB Thumb Drives. I use Mac OS X 10.13.1 Sierra.
